Ringin' in the New Year

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Christmas posts to bring you this special programming . . .

A New Year's Riddle: What's twenty feet long, begins with Mr. Potato Head, includes a pair of women's shoes and is managed by a slightly compulsive two year old?

Answer: The First Annual New Year's Day Tournament of Walty Parade.

As you can see below, it was quite an event.  While it wasn't entirely his idea, Walt was completely smittem by it and added his own touches throughout.  You can't see Ginger's lovely pair of heels because of his most noticeable addition, the giant green and yellow ride-a-long car.  (You know, the one that seems to run on room air instead of batteries and plays the "Here we go 'round the big red barn" song.)  It kind of stole the show.  But all of the normal characters were there, including Elmer the Patchwork Elephant bringing up the rear.  Because what's a parade without an elephant?

Since we'd already trashed the house by 10:30, we decided to go ahead and set up the tent/tunnel combo that Santa deposited at Putty and Nana's last week.  I agreed half-heartedly because I wanted to watch football.  It being New Year's Day and all.  Not to fear.   We rotated the tent, tied back the flaps and turned the Zippity Zoo into a sort of sideline luxury box for the UT/Penn State game.

We even had lunch delivered by the catering company that won the concession contract for this particular stadium . . . Mommy.  I bet you can't get catered sippy cups at the Outback Bowl.

My apologies to all of the UT fans out there, but I'd have to say it was a good game.  And as soon as I can stand up straight again, I'm sure I'll celebrate.

  1. There was absolutely no parade watching here in G'ville today. Since Nana and Putty have been gone for a few days, we just had to get back in the groove and go forth with the world's longest property/house search. Little did we realize that we would be rewarded by getting to see The First Annual New Year's Day Tournament of Walty Parade! Thanks so much for sharing this, and what a parade it was--not many daddies and mommies can be so privileged to participate in such a special event. And to think, Walt, that last week Mommy wasn't even allowed in the tent, and today she's catering lunch for you and Daddy. What a nice Mommy you have; not to mention Daddy who is willing to scrunch his 6'2" frame into a 42" x 42" tent. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL! We love you.

We know how your back must feel Josh, Richard and I spend lots of time in Anouk's Barbie-version of Walty's tent.

  3. I am not surprised that Walt thought to put Elmer The Patchwork Elephant at the END of the parade...if you know what I mean! Just one question about the caterer...did she hang around to make sure Walt ate his veggies?! What a fun day!!! Walt, maybe you and Gram can watch the NCAA tournament from your luxury box this year!
