SuperBaby!

Img_0595

It's a bird . . . it's a plane . . . no, it's SuperBaby!!  He can suck his fingers and grab his toes AT THE SAME TIME!  Amazing.

Okay, so we're not feeling the love these days . . . leave us a comment!  Here's a little conversation starter in honor of our upcoming vacation:  what's your favorite summer vacation destination?

Fireworks

Img_0611_1

No, that's not a look of surprise on Walt's face.  (He's known John Ford was a crook since January 15th.)  That's the look of a little boy watching his first fireworks display.  Gram and Grandaddy came to town this weekend for the Sunset Symphony, the traditional grand finale to the annual Memphis in May International Festival.  It lived up to its billing, and little Walt could not take  his eyes off of the fireworks at the end.  He was enthralled.

The "Sunset" part of the Symphony certainly didn't disappoint either, as you can see in the following photo.

What's Next . . . Deep Knee Bends?

Img_0566

Walt's newest trick is toe touches . . . or more precisely, toe grabs.  Doesn't matter where he is . .  . in his crib, the carseat, the bathtub, the changing table . . . you name it and he's grabbed his toes there!  It's especially cute when he's blowing raspberries at the same time.

Oh, and remember our threat when he was about seven weeks old to pack him off to military school?  Well, Putty must have taken us seriously because he brought back this t-shirt from one of his trips.  However, we're now thinking we'll wait a while on that military school thing . . . he's much more pleasant to be around now!

Pomp and Circumstance

Img_0560

It was another weekend of firsts for Walt.  We traveled to Nashville on Friday for Josh's cousin Mitchell's high school graduation.  We had planned to get a picture of Walt and the graduate for the blog, but one of the two (and we're not naming any names) was having a bit of a meltdown by the end of the ceremony.  Then Walt got to attend his first ordination ceremony this evening for our friend, Chuck Colson.  He was a bit disappointed that he didn't get any cookies and punch at the reception afterwards, but we explained that it was past his bedtime and we had to get home for a bath (see above) and night-night so as not to have a repeat of Friday night.  He understood.

Here, Putty and Great Granny admire His Adorableness . . .

Maybe It's Not So Bad . . .

Img_0532

We're getting a little better at the tummy time thing.  Still not a huge fan, but he can at least make it for a few minutes before he starts protesting.

Okay, really I don't have anything to say, but figured I'd better get a new picture up!

Four Months Old!

Img_0543

Yup, our little boy is growing up -- four months old today!  I know, I know, enough with the Gymini pictures, but he just loves the thing.  But not like before when he was content to just lie there and stare at himself in the mirror.  Oh no, now we're pretty sure he's trying to tear the thing down!  He did manage to pull the rabbit toy off the other today, and at the moment he's pulling on the frog and rabbit and kicking his little legs like mad, which makes the whole thing shake (which is why the toys are blurry in the picture), much to his delight!  Oh, and he's making definite moves toward rolling over.  Unfortunately, if he rolls over right now, he'll get an unpleasant surprise when he lands on the scratchy sisal rug.  (But I think we're still a little ways off from actually having success at the rolling thing, so I'm not too concerned.)

Make sure to check out his four month picture in the Birthday picture album!

Yummy Fist

Img_0029jpg

From the amount of time Walt spends gumming his fist these days, you'd think that we weren't feeding the poor kid.  He has discovered his hands and he likes them!  Apparently that's all very normal, according to the pediatrician, who we went to see yesterday for Walt's four-month check-up.  He weighed in at 15 lbs. even (see, we are feeding him) and measured 24 3/4 inches long.  Dr. Sepulveda declared him "perfect" again.  But we already knew that.

Daddy's Eye View

Img_0508

I know you all are probably tired of the same poses under the same gym, but how can you resist taking a picture of that if there is a camera within the same zip code?  Today was Daddy Half-Day.  I picked Walt up from mother's day out early.  We had some lunch, and Walt entertained himself while Daddy performed various domestic duties.  Good times!

This is late, but I need to wish your regularly scheduled blogger a happy Mother's Day.  I have an incredible mom as most of you know, and my hope and prayer is that Walt will someday also realize how fortunate he is to have such an amazing mom.  For some reason, she married me, and for seven years she has amazed me  All indications are that motherhood will give her no problem either.  I love you, Ginger.

On a similar but less serious note, I'm going to get a leg up on Father's Day by posting this picture of Putty  as an early Father's Day gift.  As it turns out, neither he nor Evie has the energy that they used to.

A Walk in the Park

Img_0023jpg

Well, Putty and Nana were here all weekend, and although we didn't go to the zoo, we did take a nice walk in the park yesterday.  (We walked through Overton Park, Memphis' largest urban park; were it not for this landmark United States Supreme Court case from 1971, we may have had to cross I-40 on our walk.

CAUTION: this Supreme Court decision does not reference Walt in any way.)

Sorry, I just think this case is fascinating.  It was one of the first very important environmental decisions handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Back to Walt: since you can't actually see him in the first picture, here's another.

Handful

Img_0482

Our little boy has become quite a handful.  Just look at how long he is!  I know we're still more than a week shy of his four-month birthday, but I've got to remark on how much he's grown.  As you can see, he also likes to suck on his hands.  It's one of the many ways he keeps himself happy.  Speaking of happy, Putty and Nana are on their way to Memphis tomorrow for the weekend, so look for lots of good photos of a spoiled grandson.  The weather should be good, and a trip to the zoo is in the works.  We may unveil a new feature next week: Pandas, Primates and Putty.

The Art of Public Speaking

Img_0485

No, this is not the recommended position for effective public speaking, but lately Walt has chosen this and many other positions to make his voice heard.  His favorite audience remains the ceiling fan in our bedroom, and we caught him pontificating in its general direction again.  So, we present another downloadable Walt moment for your enjoyment.  (Note: this one is a bit louder; so if you're at work and you don't want your boss thinking that you are smuggling infants to work with you, you should turn your speakers down a little.  If you need some basic instructions, see the previous post.)

Walt had a busy weekend.  He went to Arkansas for the first time where he met up with one of his girlfriends at a post-wedding party for Beth and Landon.  Here is a picture of him with Clara and her mom, Leslie.  That's Beth's mom holding Walt.  By the way, Clara is his girlfriend; Leslie and Ms. Bernard are both married.
