The construction to date has largely been about Mommy and Daddy. (Okay, mostly Mommy.) So, we decided Walt and all his buds would need a place to hang out while their parents are chilling on the screened porch. And because apparently we have decided to pull our weight and yours in the Bush plan to spend our way into an economic recovery. (Seriously, no one should be expecting any good Christmas presents from the Spicklers this year.)
No, it's not finished yet, but Mr. Julio was kind enough to shovel some of the leftover sand from the cement mixing into the sandbox part for Walt. This particular playhouse is a Mommy-designed original and will feature storage for outdoor toys, both covered and uncovered sandbox area, a slide and a fireman's pole (recycled from an old playground -- Bob the Builder would be so proud). Walt's pretty excited.
Meanwhile, inside the house, we've been two weeks away from being done for about five weeks now. We are more than ready to stop sharing our lives with a construction crew. And that's all I'm going to say about that. On a happier subject, the bookshelves are finished and, after a marathon session that lasted until midnight last night, they are even painted. (The couch will go in the big open space, in case you're wondering.) Some of the spaces on the right, which is where the computer will go, will have doors on them, but they're still drying.
I'm pretty sure we don't have enough books to fill up all these shelves, so if you're looking for any cheap gift ideas for us (to pay us back for the cheap gifts you'll be getting from us), our Amazon wish lists should supply some ideas. Or you could always go with a $5 Home Depot gift card because it is practically our summer home. This will all be finished soon, right? Right?
Walt is one lucky kid...but you can't fool me...I see lots of relaxed reading on the screened porch while Walt happily plays in his playhouse (good luck with that!). As for filling up your bookshelves...I can help you with that. Just let me know your preferrences...JAVA, solar energy, Thomas Jefferson, Louise L'Amour, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintanence??? I can fix you right up!
ReplyDeleteI guess you can't fool your mom -- she sees right through my motives! And I might take the Thomas Jefferson tomes off your hands, but the rest you can keep.
ReplyDeleteI was already thinking I knew just the guy in Murray, KY, who could fix you right up with filling those bookshelves. However, Putty may help somewhat by loaning you his classic "Diseases of the Horse" to go with DeeDaddy's motorcycle maintenance book.
ReplyDeleteAny luck on the Ikea chairs, or are they still the cheap gifts you want from us for your birthday? It will have to be you 40th, because the cheap shopping in the States put a pretty big hole in our bankaccount. I really feel for you , guys. I vividly remember our six week constructionproject which turned into a 6 month project. If you want a weekend without dog and child so you can get stuff done, just put them on the plane. Our pool is heated now too, awesome. Since I won't be watching soccer this weekend (no way I can cheer for either of the teams), I will be shrivelling up in the pool!
ReplyDeleteBottle of rose wine, grilled burger and a nice book will complete my weekend. Oh no I forgot, we are babysitting the twin on saturday and we have a familytrip to the amusmentpark/playground on sunday. Bummer.
Have a good weekend and tell Walt I love his hair! Love to mr Elvis (did he ever come home, Walt?)
