Daddy here. You know, the good thing about having a son is that you can force sports upon him. You can also force professional sports team allegiances on him. Even if they don't happen to be your own. So, because Gram, Uncle Stephen and Uncle David have such unflappable devotion to the Cubbies, Daddy made the following purchase for Walt a couple of weeks ago in Chicago.
He and Evie are very excited about being new baseball fans. I told them both about the approaching playoffs. The chill in the air. The pennant races. Joe Buck. They were thrilled.
Then I told Walt that the Cubs are currently 19 1/2 games back of first in their division. And I told him that the Cubs haven't won a World Series title since 1908. He was less than thrilled.
Don't worry Walty. As Uncle Stephen always says, "Next year is their year."

ReplyDeleteWith me being the eternal optimist that I am, I must tell you to ignore the current National League Central Standings, for they are merely numbers. Keep that chin up and that bottom lip tucked in, because 2007 is the year of the bear...the Cubbie bear!!! I am not sure if your Dad giving you that sweatshirt is a blessing or a curse...hopefully it will be the former. I just know with you in the Cubs corner now, that elusive World Series title is right around the corner. Keep the Cubbie faith! Love you!

Being a Cub fan is not for everyone...but it will build character, toughen your skin, and will keep you coming back for more (*heartache disappointment and sheer frustration!). But all will be forgiven when Daddy takes you to Wrigley. Just wait 'til next year! Love you!
I am pretty sure that could be defined as child abuse. I don't see any reason to put that child through such torture. That said, we are going to party when it happens.
ReplyDeleteAnd wear you Ajax-jersey under the sweatshirt, and the picture is complete. Although it wasn't that long ago, when they won their last title. Their performance so far this season is equivalent to the Cubs'.
