Off Roadin'

The jog stroller has become Walt's mode of transportation of choice as of late.  He wants to go for a ride in it ALL THE TIME.  You think I'm kidding, but trust me, I am not.  First thing in the morning, he goes to the stroller (which we leave set up in the living room most of the time just for convenience sake), and bangs on it with a pleading look on his face.  Repeat this scenario about 37 times and you've got a picture of what a day at our house is like.  And Josh and I love a good walk or run as much as the next guy, but the old neighborhood gets a little boring after you have trekked its streets every single day for two months.

So today, we decided to expand our horizons and head out to Shelby Farms, which is "the largest concentrated green space in the heart of an urbanized county" in the U.S., according to the Friends of Shelby Farm Park website.  It's 4,500 acres, to be exact, and Josh wanted to make sure we saw as many of those acres as possible, so instead of sticking to the paved, or even the gravel trail, he decided to follow the dirt trail, which quickly gave way to no trail at all.

And then we were left standing in the middle of a field looking at a barbed wire fence.  There were people riding horses on the other side of the fence, looking at us like, "How did they get over there?  And with a stroller and a ridiculous little dog?  What's wrong with them?"  I was thinking the same thing myself.  Of course, Evie didn't mind -- she was able to get off of her leash and run like the wind.  Just call her Barbaro.

But we pressed on and eventually got back a little closer to civilization, just in time for an al fresco diaper change.

Although the off roading wasn't exactly what I had in mind when Josh suggested "a walk" at Shelby Farms, Walt certainly seemed to enjoy it.  And when Walt's happy, Mama's usually pretty happy too.

  1. Oops! I guess that's one of those pre-marital things I should have told you--Spickler males are prone to want to "see what's just off this trail" quite frequently. Walt is just getting an early lesson, I suppose. I must say, though, that I've seen some very unusual things by taking that less traveled pathway, so hang in there, Ginger.

  2. It is the unexpected or 500 travelbooks. I have a book guy, luckily we lack the funds to travel to all those places. I just stick to what I know, good old Murray. Loved the story and the pictures.
