I learned something extremely disconcerting tonight while watching Walt: his nursery is no longer big enough to hold his attention for more than 3.5 seconds. I put him down in the middle of his floor, and he was out the door before I could sit down with him. To the hall. To the kitchen. To the living room. On to things with more potential, more space, more power cords. As I watched him (and took pictures, of course), I realized that the little room we spent so much time preparing for him had satisfied his curiosity for all of nine and a half months of his life. I suspect that soon, the house will be too small, then the yard, then the neighborhood, then . . . I shudder to think. He could live on the moon someday for all we know. Wow. I guess all daddies (is that the correct plural for daddy?) go through this, but I really hadn't considered until tonight that he might ever want to be somewhere other where I am.
Enough of that. Sorry. I'm here unsupervised. I just thought I should record it for posterity. He's a traveling baby, and I've got to get used to it. He even crawled down to the park today with Evie:
Actually, Mommy took him. And he had a good time.
He even got to ride in a big-boy swing.
Congrats Walty!
ReplyDeleteYou are officially a crawler!!! I can't wait to see you and Collier chasing each other this weekend. Now the fun REALLY begins!!!
I've missed you little buddy! Can't wait to kiss on your sweet little round cheeks!
Yes, I well remember the day that Ginger stood at our front window, pointing to the house across the street and said, "Mommy, when I get married I will live in that house so I can be near you and Daddy"...then she went off to Memphis...then to Mexican orphanages...and East St Louis...and Washington DC...and Spain...and even though she doesn't live in that house across the street, I'm very happy she has found a wonderful life off of Goodman St! Enjoy Walt every minute you have him---the years go quickly!
ReplyDelete'OH THE PLACES HE WILL GO', and if you're lucky, the places he will take you, Josh. I'm not sure if Nana will ever get to visit you on the moon, Walt, but you can be sure of one thing; the earth can't contain all the joy you have brought into our lives in such a short period of time. Memphis never had anything that attracted me either, though, until one day what felt like still our little boy decided he would "crawl" out of our sight. There he found that wonderful little girl who had "crawled" from Goodman Street. Isn't it amazing that all those places she went are the same places he went, and then . . . . .
ReplyDeleteI wonder who's crawling in your direction, Walt, or in whose direction you're crawling.
Love you bunches, and remember, just because you're getting older, Gram (and Aunt Mimi) are still not to spoil you this weekend. Don't give away all your kisses, and have lots of fun with Collier.
Go Walty, Go Walty!! Today it is crawling, next is walking and before you know it, you and daddy will be drooling over the new car you want daddy to buy, so you can drive it. Hopefully I will get to see you before that happens. We are seriously watering the darn plant, and maybe.... But when I do come over, the only one I want to share you with is Gram, since she is my ride! I want you all to myself! Love you very very much,
ReplyDeletehave fun this weekend!
Harriet
