Sunkissed

Img_1391

With it being so hot this week, Walt spent a good deal of time in his skivvies.  I think we all would have done the same were it socially acceptable.

Walt discovered the cord on my camera today . . .

(It's kind of a long one, so downloading may take a while.)

P.S. We finally hit 15,000 hits yesterday -- my original projections of hitting the mark by Walt's six-month b'day proved to be a bit ambitious.  But we still thank you for your patronage.

Big Weekend

Lots going on here in Walt's World this weekend . . .

Img_1344

First, Mommy turned 30 and had a lovely birthday dinner at her favorite restaurant while Nana and Putty babysat . . .

Img_1357

Then Walt got his first haircut (really just a little over the ears) with Grandaddy doing the honors and Nana doing the baby holding.  Walt amused himself by playing with part of his bottle.  (Don't worry, Aunt Mimi -- the swirl was spared!)

Img_1360

And today Walt was baptized.  (Sorry no picture of the actual event -- too dark in the sanctuary and no flash photography allowed.)  Even though he was dead asleep right before the actual sprinkling, he took it like a champ and only had a little lip quiver.

And then there was just the general cuteness that goes on all the time . . .

This is Walt enjoying Gram's recipe for "Prune Surprise" . . . a mixture of rice cereal and prunes.  Yummy!

A good weekend was had by all!

Old Mommy

Img_1334

"Is it true, Mommy?  I just heard that you're turning 30 tomorrow!"

"Yes, it's true."

"I can't believe it -- you don't look a day over 25."

"Thank you, Walty.  You're a sweet boy."

"Yeah, Mommy.  I know."

Hat Head

Img_1310

I was taking advantage of some downtime this weekend to clean out Walt's dresser and closet -- it's already time to pack away his 3-6 month clothes (sniff).  Anyway, I found this hat that Josh and I bought before Walt was even born.  We just thought it was so cute.  I don't think he ever actually wore it -- he was never outside for more than the 10 seconds it took to get him to the car when he was small enough to fit in it.  I got a little misty-eyed thinking about it, so I figured I'd at least get a picture of him wearing it now since it probably wouldn't fit by this winter.  Well, not only will it not fit this winter, it doesn't even fit now!  It just sat there balanced precariously on top of Walt's head while I took this picture.  This passage of time thing is killing me.

By the way, make sure to check out Collier's Corner today -- there's a new post!

Lazy Day

Img_1323

Is there anything better than hangin' on the couch on a Sunday afternoon in your basketball shorts and a t-shirt?  Josh and Walt don't think so.  I thought I was being clever by putting him down to play in the floor with his back to the TV while Josh watched the NASCAR race, but when I came back from the kitchen, this is what I found . . .

Img_1320

I think he learned this from Cousin Collier.  Oh, and just because I think he looked so cute in his church outfit this morning . . .

Peas, Please!

Img_1266

After passing the four day waiting period to determine whether rice cereal would cause any allergic reactions (it didn't) we moved on today to peas!  After the first bite he made a face reminiscent of his Cousin Collier's reaction to his first bite of peas.  Basically, ewww!  But then we tried again and Walt got on board and finished half the jar.  So after two foods we can say that our child is not a picky eater!

And for your viewing pleasure . . . more video!

Bubble Fun

Img_1245

Daddy likes to pour a lot of soap into the tub to make lots of bubbles for Walty.  Mommy keeps trying to tell him that this Johnson & Johnson stuff ain't cheap.  But apparently nothing's too good for his baby boy.  Walt is a big boy now and no longer leans back in his tub, but likes to sit straight up.  Looks like we're headed for the real tub soon.

My Boys

Img_1172

Have you seen a sweeter picture today?  Didn't think so.  What a lucky girl I am.  And because I forgot to post yesterday, a bonus . . .

Img_1221

By the way, we had another first today -- Evie was afraid of a toy wielded by Walt.  Evie is well known for being scared by anything (and I do mean anything -- a towel, salad tongs, a TIME magazine just a second ago) that is waved in her direction.  However, you and I know that Walt has about as much chance of hitting Evie with a thrown toy as he does of getting a major league pitching contract right now.  Evie is apparently not aware of this fact.  He started banging some toy on the ground in her general direction and she went scurrying to the corner of the nursery where she cowered until he dropped the toy.  Pathetic.

Chow

Img_1187

The moment that Mommy has feared for quite some time finally arrived today.  Walt had his first "solid" food for lunch today.  Both Mommy and Walt performed admirably, however.  It wasn't nearly as messy as I anticipated, and Mommy didn't even cry.  I think I would have cried if I'd had to eat that stuff.  It didn't look very appetizing.  Oh well, at least it's fortified with iron.

On the technology front, Walt and I made an emergency trip to the office today to diagnose the problem with the picture transfers.  (I hope you all realize that Sunday office visits are extremely rare, so now you know how dedicated we are to Walt's fans.)  We've determined that the camera is the problem, but we've devised a temporary fix.  The pictures should begin flowing freely.

Also, we thought this momentous occasion should be filmed, so we bring you another Walt's World first: a downloadable Walt movie.  (WARNING: this file is pretty large.  Approx. 9mb.  It may take a few minutes even with a high speed connection.  If you're using dial-up, just go ahead and send us a self-addressed stamped envelope, and we'll send you a copy on CD.  That would probably be faster.)  As usual, just click, and it should play automatically.  Watch your volume level, too.  Don't want anyone to get fired from a job.

Damage Control

OK, we've run into a bit of a problem here at Walt's World World Headquarters and Cafe.  Due to conditions beyond our control (mainly Microsoft is evil) we are unable to post any pictures at this time.  Fear not, we bring you the next best thing, a sound clip.  We promise to do everything within our power to have the visuals reinstated as soon as possible.  Until then, Walt's squealing will have to do.

Download V006.WAV

Clicking on the file should launch your player and automatically play the file.  If not, please let us know by way of a comment or an email.

Walt and Evie: A Photo Essay

Img_1136

As promised . . . lots of good pics of Walt and Evie (see the new photo album at left).  Walt remains fascinated with her.  He actually started reaching out and trying to touch her today and she couldn't get away fast enough.  Smart dog.   I think she's in big trouble once he becomes mobile.

Lunger

Img_1123

As Mary Poppins would say, he's "practically perfect in every way"!  Dr. Sepulveda proclaimed him so at the end of his appointment today.  He weighed in at 16 3/4 lbs. and measured 25 1/2 inches.  Right on track.  The most interesting part of the visit, though, was when the doctor asked if he had started the fake coughing yet.  Why, yes, in fact.  Just a few days ago, he started it -- he sticks his tiny tongue out and makes a pathetic little hacking sound.  Clearly not a real cough.  We had already started calling our little faker "Typhoid Walty".  According to Dr. Sepulveda he's doing it -- get this -- just to get attention!  Because he's not getting enough?  (Extra points for you if you get the Tombstone reference in the title.)

Coming tomorow . . . REALLY cute pictures of Walt and Evie together.  Tune in!

Sittin' Pretty

Img_1098

For a few minutes anyway.  (Long enough for me to take this picture, obviously.)  We still have to stay within arm's reach of him, but today he sat by himself for a good five minutes before starting to teeter backwards.  Fortunately, Mommy was there to save him from a good bonk on the head.  Sorry about the picture quality, but I was trying to take the picture really fast in case he started to topple.

Hit Update:  We're still under 14,000 hits with just about nine days to go until the big six-month birthday.  However, we can still make it if we average about 120 hits a day.  I'm not asking anyone to pad the numbers by checking in repeatedly during the day (unless, of course, you already do -- grandparents and Harriet!), but just make sure to check in everyday.  I know there was a bit of a lull over the 4th of July holiday, but we're back and better than ever!  We here at Walt's World promise to make a new post everyday (maybe even twice a day if we get crazy!) until the 15th to reward you for your efforts.  Coming up tomorrow . . . a report from Walt's 6-month well-baby check-up.  What will he weigh?  How long will he be?  Will Dr. Sepulveda chastise us for not feeding the poor kid any solids yet?  Tune in tomorrow for the answers to these questions and more!

Viva Nash Vegas!

Img_1062

Well, Walt trekked to Nashville for the second weekend in a row, but this time he took Evie and stayed for four nights.  We think Putty and Nana were most enthused.  (Probably because of the four nights thing, not the Evie thing.)  He and Mommy and Daddy spent a very relaxing LONG weekend seeing all of the Middle Tennessee aunts, uncles, cousins and, of course, Granny.  Here are some of the highlights:

It looks like Granny was listening to whoever was talking, and Walt wasn't.

Walt and cousin Drew hangin' out.  You'd think Walt wouldn't be surprised about being photographed by now.

And, finally, for all of you with a soft spot for Evie.  Here she is in her co-pilot position on the way to Nashville.  (She was a good puppy all weekend, so she deserves a little face time here in the World.)
