If it's the end of May, it must be time for a visit from the Dutch people! Harriet and Richard made it to Memphis last weekend as part of their annual exotic vacation to the mid-South. We showed them a good (if unseasonably hot) time! First up, a trip to the RiverWalk. Getting Walt to pose for any kind of picture takes some trickery, so here we all make mad, scared, and then happy faces in an attempt to get one with him smiling.
Did I mention it was hot? It was hot. So, upon arriving back at home, everyone settled in for a short snooze (well, everyone except the six-months pregnant girl who was in the kitchen fixing the evening's picnic . . . such the giver I am). While I'm sure Harriet and Richard's parents would find the sight of them sleeping still perfectly sweet, it was this scene that captured my attention:
Yes, they were both actually asleep -- not just faking for the camera. All rested up (most of us, anyway), we headed over to the Levitt Shell for the first of the season's free concerts on the beautiful lawn. This is a serious amenity Midtown's got going on now. Free concerts, four nights a week through the end of June and then starting back up in early fall. Two miles (if that) from our house. I think I said it last year, but Mortimer Levitt is my hero. We're actually thinking of naming kid number two after him. Morty Spickler has a ring to it, don't you think? (Who am I kidding, after naming our first kid Walter, who'd actually be surprised if we named the second one Mortimer?)
Scenes from the Shell:
Richard and Harriet taking in the show.
Walt and Mer are the two barefoot urchins in the olive green and spring green t-shirts right in front of the singer.
Lyndi and sweet Hadley (you're sweet too, Lyndi!).
Mer shows some southern hospitality to the visiting Dutch guy by fanning him while he enjoys the show.
Walt shows some of his four-year old toot-headiness.
Thanks for paying us a visit, Harriet and Richard -- we promise to try to have cooler weather next time!
